5 Productivity Tools to Help Your Student’s Study Skills
At Total Learning Centers, we have always believed in removing barriers to learning by meeting students where they are in their academic journey. This school year will undoubtedly bring new challenges, and students will need to strike a balance between learning their class material, completing assignments, and refining their study skills to get the most out of the curriculum.
With this in mind, we have created a list of some of our favorite study tools to help with time management, organization, note-taking, and writing.
Quizlet - Started in 2005 to help a high schooler ace a French test, Quizlet is now a popular study resource in 2 out of 3 high schools in the United States. Students can create flashcards, find step-by-step explanations, make a study plan, and easily track their progress.
Quizlet is a wonderful tool for reviewing vocabulary terms, creating your own practice tests, and creating study materials that you can access from any computer or mobile device. By creating their own flashcards, students are actively participating in the learning process, and can share these materials with classmates to form study groups!
Slick Write- Slick Write is a free desktop application that elevates student writing by checking grammar, sentence structure, overuse of the passive voice, and more.
By simply copying and pasting your paper into Slick Write, you can get immediate feedback on your writing. These recommendations will help with word choice, improve your sentence structure, and even help you to visualize how well your paper flows.
Natural Readers- For students who struggle with reading and writing, Natural Readers is a great site to help them get through assignments more easily. This text-to-speech site is also a helpful website for students with dyslexia, allowing them to process notes, assignments, and reading passages in a multisensory way.
Simply copy and paste any text into the online reader, and Natural Readers will read it aloud. By adjusting font, voice, and speed, students can comfortably follow along and improve their understanding of the text.
Ever Note- Create tasks lists, save web pages, and add photos and documents to your notes. Students can also add calendars for assignment deadlines to help them stay accountable. Even better, EverNote will sync across all your devices!
EverNote has long been a favorite app for productivity junkies. Students can take pictures of worksheets, study materials, whiteboards, and assignment books, and access them on any device. They can also scan their handwritten notes with the EverNote app. Forgotten papers, missing notebooks, and empty backpacks can be a thing of the past!
Khan Academy- Khan Academy is a non-profit educational company that provides a library of video tutorials and interactive exercises. Students have access to a personalized dashboard as well as videos in all school subjects, including SAT prep.
If a student needs extra independent practice or review before a test, there may be no better one-stop shop than Khan Academy. With robust videos, personalized exercises, and a wealth of content, students in every grade can feel confident that they understand their class content with supplemental work from Khan Academy.
